But First, Coffee Shops in LA

Los Angeles is a city that’s always hustling and bustling. With so many people on the go all of the time, it creates a need for something to help us get through the day. And we all know what that is.

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee.

Whether it’s to get you through your Monday morning, to help you write a paper for a class you’re in or even to pair with your Sunday brunch, it’s always the perfect accessory to any busy day. But where can you find great coffee? To answer your question, I’ve narrowed all of the coffee shops in LA down to five.

Alfred {Coffee + Kitchen} – West Hollywood

Alfred {Coffee + Kitchen} is perfection for any coffee lover. The interior is an Instagram haven; their slogan and quotes on the walls deserve praise, and the service is always incredibly friendly. With a myriad of seating options inside and outside, this is the perfect spot for a weekend hangout spot. They have pressed juice available in the fridge and pints of McConnell ice cream in their freezer if you like the variety. There’s also a farmers market on the same block that lasts til 2pm on Sundays! Alfred’s is the perfect way to start your Sunday mornings. Since discovering this place, I’ve never had a disappointing cup of coffee.

Philz Coffee – Santa Monica

The ambiance/atmosphere of Philz Coffee will remind you of San Francisco, it’s chill and relaxed. Even the ordering is something you won’t normally be accustomed to. As you walk in you’ll see a baffling menu of different blends. While there is a description board of the blend descriptions, you go straight up to the counter and if you let the barista know it’s your first time, the barista will find out what you like and hopefully give you the best coffee you’ve ever had! They individually brew every single cup of coffee according to your preferences. It really personalizes the experience and makes you happy knowing that you got exactly what you wanted. I highly recommend the “mint mojito coffee,” it’s hands-down one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters – Downtown

L.A’s coffee that will most likely punch you in the face at first sip. No, seriously though, Stumptown packs a punch and let me tell you a story of love at first sip. The second you arrive to Stumptown there is already a line around the building because of how good it is. Once you walk in, you get to personally see how they brew the coffee and there are private tasting rooms if you want to enhance your experience. The interior here is very urban and industrial, which definitely gives it a different vibe than your typical coffee shop. I may be biased, but Stumptown will always be one of my favorites – especially the cold brew.

Coffee Commissary – Hollywood

It’s hard not to love the Coffee Commissary – it’s a perfect place to meet up with friends, study, or just hang out and relax. They also have locations all over SoCal. They have STRONG and good quality coffee and the staff is always incredibly kind and really personable. You’ll notice a very limited menu of just the basics, but it’s the basics made flawlessly. The ambiance of this place is beautiful. Modern and industrial meets sophisticated coffee shop. This is my top spot for coffee or espresso in the Hollywood area. Also check out their Burbank location!

Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea – Venice

Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea has a very organic and natural concept. The workers are dancing along to the music, everyone is sitting around talking or doing work, and the shop is very bright from all the natural light coming through the windows. If you go through the front door and walk through an alley like street it’ll lead you to the front door in which you stand in line to order your coffee. It’s really cute because there’s little plant vines around the walls and the whole neighborhood is colorful and filled with street art. The vibe here is so alive and organic. They have a great selection of pastries in the front to accompany your coffee… but forewarning, your total can get a bit expensive since the price of a coffee and pastry is a bit steep. What can you expect though? We’re in LA & the quality of the coffee is amazing!

Get out there and check out some of these awesome coffee shops. After all, in LA, coffee is king.
