Monogamous relationships can be hard sometimes, but if both parties are willing to work at it, there are a lot of things you can do to keep the love lasting for a long, long time; If that’s what you desire. You might not want to make things work and if that’s the case… there are some awesome ways to break up with someone, without really breaking up with them. Here are some things I believe will make the long haul easier in any relationship.
1. Love Yourself
Those that love themselves and are happy and content in their own skin, are more capable of enveloping someone else in their love. If you have no love for yourself you wont be able to love those around you.
2. Have friends – Together and Individually
Being with your significant other is important, but making friends is important as well. If you are socially content you will be happier to see the one you love at the end of the day. So make friends together and make friends that you can see when your loved one isn’t around.
3. Set Up a Chore List
If you live together, there are always those little things that bother you about your partner. Whether it’s not replacing the toilet paper roll, or putting the forks topside down in the disk rack, these things can become pretty troublesome overtime. Set up a chore list if it becomes an issue. This way, there are rules of engagement clearly labeled for all to see. Then if someone doesn’t abide, you don’t have to scream and get into an argument, because you agreed on the terms together.
4. Give, and Don’t Be Afraid to Take
Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want, but don’t be too proud to make accommodations for your significant other either. Many times in the beginning of a relationship, we make a lot of concessions for the other person. Once the honeymoon phase wears off, we get comfortable and things may change drastically. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want, but you also have to be considerate of the other person’s feelings and needs.
5. Don’t Forget Date Night
Once you are comfortable, a lot of couples forget about date night and things start to get monotonous. Don’t forget to have a little fun! Go out, grab a drink, a nice dinner and catch a good movie. These little things can bring some life back into the daily routine.
These are all things that can help a long-term, monogamous relationship stay on its’ feet. Love is hard and monogamous relationships are harder, but there are always ways to keep the love going if it’s worth it. Is it worth it for you?
