Grocery shopping seems to be a pretty strenuous activity for most. You forget your shopping list at home, you end up running back and forth from one aisle to the next, and then you get home and realize you forgot the ingredients for dinner and got a whole bunch of junk you didn’t actually need.
I’m a pro grocery shopper since I’m a personal chef for my company Your In-Home Chef, and I’ve organized my shopping lists so well, that it rarely takes me longer than 20-30 minutes to shop even if I’m in a grocery store I’ve never been in before.
Here are my top 3 tips to grocery shopping:
TIP #1: Have a Weekly Budget
Create a weekly budget so you know exactly how much you’d like to spend. Once you finalize a budget, you can build your meal plan around that.
TIP #2: Make a Weekly Meal Plan
Create a meal plan! If you have difficulties doing that, I can help you. I create meal plans and also prep meals through my company Your In-Home Chef – If you need help, I can create a meal plan tailored to your needs. If you’re comfortable with, and have time for, creating a meal plan on your own; create a meal plan ahead of time so you know exactly what ingredients you need for the week. Shopping weekly for perishables also ensures that you don’t waste.
TIP #3: Use Your Phone For Your Shopping List
I organize my shopping list by the 3 P’s – Produce, Protein, and Pantry. When I’m writing my list, I organize them in that fashion. That way, when I get to the grocery store I don’t have to scan my list every time I hit a new aisle. I head straight to the produce section and know I have everything listed in the same section. Then you can move on.
TIP #4: Organize Your List By Sections
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve written a comprehensive shopping list only to end up leaving it at home. We’re all connected to our phones at all times these days, so I use the Notes App to make sure my list is always with me. Not only that, but you can add items to the list throughout the day, as they come up. Erase the items as you shop so your list is concise and up to date.
